I am working at Chungnam National University (CNU) as a research professor.
I come from Armenia and I live with my wife in Yuseong, not far from CNU.
My wife's name is Gayane Piloyan and currently she is patient of CNUH.
One year before she felt unwell and we visited CNUH for checking her health condition.
The diagnosis was very disappointing — acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
Taking her age (61) into account, she had a small chance to survive. At that time, we met professor 송익찬 from hematology center. He became the doctor of my wife.
During the our first meeting we were seated in front of each other and he calmly talked about AML and, the course of treatment, and the difficulties through which we must go.
I agreed that she should be treated in CNUH because the hospital was close to my living location and working place, which makes my daily visit to her much From that time the process of long treatment has begun: three courses of chemotherapy and final bone marrow transplantation.
As a person, he is delicate, well-educated and most importantly very optimistic.
Moreover, he understood how difficult the situation would be for foreigners in hospital.
My wife was recovered completely after all treatments.
Now, once every two weeks we visit hospital for blood test and to meet prof. 송익찬.
Six months have already passed since bone marrow transplantation. Now she is very healthy, and happy sitting near to her professor. Life is going on….
I and love for the professor who granted a new life for the person “from outside”.
I also express my gratitude to hospital administration, all the nurses of the hematology center for the coordinated work that they do every day. Special thanks to the staff of blood bank for continuous supply of blood and platelet bags during the treatment. I know how hard it was for them since my wife has a blood type A with RH minus that is very rare in Korea.
I would like to thank Korean Government and Ministry of health and welfare for a financial discount for the patients with cancer.
Afterwards: I heard that this disease can be successfully treated in several countries, such as Germany, Israel, France, but today with high confidence I can declare that Chungnam National University Hospital is one of the best hospitals in the world, because there are many excellent professors and 송익찬 is one of them.
